WE6.4 Antimicrobial Stewardship in General Surgery

Abstract Aims National guidance states that prolonged treatment of gentamicin must be discussed with an infection specialist or microbiology if it is to continue beyond 3 4 days. This project aimed audit prescribing in a General Surgical ward, against national guidelines and improve practice. Methods Data was collected prospectively over the course seven surgical admissions were analysed for any therapy received, how many days discussion occurred they received treatment. A novel sticker introduced patient notes notify clinicians review where appropriate. re-audited 6 weeks later after interventions introduced. Results Initially, 12 patients identified as receiving gentamicin. Of these, 5 treatment, 0 whom had formal documented. After introduced, again 2 100% decision made absence alternatives. Conclusions small area improvement regards simple intervention proved effective managed practice by 100%.
